ATV’s winter season opens with an ambitious and emotionally charged new drama, “Aynı Yağmur Altında” (Under the Same Rain), which makes its grand premiere on 9 February 2026. Spanning from the streets of London to the heart of Istanbul, the series promises a sweeping love story where passion collides with ideology, family power struggles, and destiny itself.

Directed by Ali Balcı and produced by Baba Yapım, the series is written by Hasan Burak Kayacı, Kemal Çelik, and Hakan Kandal—a creative team known for character-driven storytelling and emotional depth.

A Love Born in Protest

At the center of the story is Rosa Sofia Martinez (Nilsu Berfin Aktaş), a young woman of Spanish descent who has devoted her life to human rights activism. Rosa’s world is forever changed during a Gaza protest in London, where she is seriously injured and comes face-to-face with death. Yet, amid the chaos, she also encounters love.

That love is Ali Aydan (Burak Tozkoparan), a free-spirited young man raised in a conservative and authoritarian family structure. Ali’s desire to break away from his family’s rigid expectations is intensified after meeting Rosa. What begins as a chance encounter quickly turns into a powerful, all-consuming romance.

But love does not come without a price.

As Rosa struggles with a serious illness and a mysterious quest from her past, her journey leads her to Istanbul, where fate reunites her with Ali. Their love grows rapidly—intense, passionate, and sincere—yet it is precisely this love that threatens to destroy them both.

Families, Power, and Hidden Agendas

“Aynı Yağmur Altında” is not only a love story; it is also a sharp examination of class, belief systems, power, and hypocrisy, embodied through its rich supporting characters.

Fazilet (Hülya Avşar), Ali’s elegant and dominant aunt, is a woman obsessed with status and control, masking her ambitions behind refinement and grace.

Faik Aydan (Levent Ülgen), Ali’s father, is a pragmatic conservative whose youthful idealism has eroded under the weight of power and money.

Hümeyra Aydan (Deniz Uğur), Ali’s mother, is a devoted and sacrificial woman whose life was deeply scarred during the February 28th period when she was expelled from university for wearing a headscarf.

On the other side stands the powerful Karanoğlu family, led by:

Umur Karanoğlu (Fikret Kuşkan), a ruthless, authoritarian tycoon obsessed with wealth and status, who fabricated a noble past to conceal his rural origins.

Tülin Karanoğlu (Mine Çayıroğlu), an aristocratic, flamboyant socialite who looks down on the Aydan family and harbors an old rivalry with Fazilet.

Koray Karanoğlu (Taro Emir Tekin), Umur’s cold and self-centered son, who becomes obsessively in love with Rosa, setting the stage for dangerous revelations that will shake the Karanoğlu mansion.

Beliz Karanoğlu (Bahar Şahin), Koray’s fragile sister, who, despite her privilege, feels emotionally empty and is willing to transform herself for her love of Ali.

Adding warmth and moral grounding to the story is Mürsel Baba (Erkan Can), a reformed ex-convict who now runs a secondhand bookstore in historic Istanbul. A mentor and safe haven for Ali, Mürsel represents redemption, wisdom, and spiritual resilience.

Themes That Cut Deep

Under the Same Rain questions the cost of love in a world divided by class, ideology, tradition, and ambition. It explores:

Love versus loyalty

Activism versus personal survival

Faith versus power

Destiny versus choice

As Rosa and Ali fight to protect their love, the series asks a haunting question:Is love enough when fate itself is an enemy?

A Star-Studded Cast

The series boasts an impressive ensemble, blending legendary names with rising stars, including:

Nilsu Berfin Aktaş, Burak Tozkoparan, Hülya Avşar, Fikret Kuşkan, Deniz Uğur, Levent Ülgen, Erkan Can, Mine Çayıroğlu, Taro Emir Tekin, Bahar Şahin, alongside Birand Tunca, Sarp Bozkurt, Türkü Turan, and many more.

Final Word

With its international backdrop, socially conscious narrative, and emotionally complex characters, “Aynı Yağmur Altında” stands out as one of ATV’s most ambitious winter dramas. It is a story of two souls meeting under the same rain—only to discover that sometimes, love itself can be the greatest storm.
